We never forget our first. With that, we are ecstatic to share with you our first Rory & Sloan Gal for our new Career Girl Diaries series — Toni.

The cool kid in school, Toni was what you would call a trendsetter. Even if no one actually knew what the trends were (or maybe even what they meant) because we were in what – 5th grade? She was the effortless beauty whom the girls wanted to hate and the guys wanted to date – from grade school to college! A Regina George with Cady Heron personality. But in all those years, she never let it get to her head. She remained the same down-to-earth, approachable and effervescent gal everyone loved to hang out with because she just emanates good vibes.

She’s our front runner Rory & Sloan Gal as she’s the first person we recall who sported (and rocked) tassel earrings – back in 2012 – when no one even gave a second look at it yet. A working millenial who balances her need to hustle with her passion to explore the world, practice mindful yoga, help save the environment and keep her creative mind and artsy hands moving.

The Interview

Name: Marie Antoinette Medina
Age: 28
Current job/company: Manager, Phoenix Home and Furniture Designer
Education: Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (CSB-PSID)

Badly explain your job.

People pay me to nitpick and criticize their homes.

How do you start your day?

With a peanut butter sandwich and iced coffee.

How do you end your day?

I love reading articles I find online until I fall asleep. Nowadays I’ve been reading GOT theories and backstories (haha).

What is a strategy you use to keep focused?

My work involves looking at social media feeds, so it can get a bit tricky. I focus on the work to be done first and when I know I’m finished with all my tasks, thats when I reward myself with social media time. I don’t believe in depriving yourself with social media, just don’t let it take up all your time.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach work?

My current boss. For me, he has achieved that work-life balance we all crave for. He taught us to enjoy what we’re doing ‘cos if we do, we’d never feel like we’re working.

What did you want to be when you were little?

I wanted to be a lawyer.

What is a trip that has changed your mind and why?

My recent trip to Lombok, Indonesia. My visit there completely changed my mindset and previous approach to traveling. The trip taught me how to appreciate and cherish the simple things we don’t always notice when we’re in our comfort zones. I also learned about how to have the best time travelling even with just a small budget.

What is the best advice you have ever received from a boss?

Stop looking on the internet or Pinterest for inspiration. Instead, read a book, travel or even just look around your surroundings. True inspiration you seek wont appear on a screen.

What’s your ‘get going’ motivation technique?

I take a short break to rest my eyes or I do some breathing exercises which I learned from my yoga classes. Breathing really helps the body and mind reset. If all else fails, I grab a cup of coffee!

What victory are you most proud of in the past year?

Probably our transition from a small showroom to a now bigger and better one. Also, we’re currently working on our 7th collection and our first official launch which I’m really excited about!

How do you prevent burnout?

I make sure I have my “me time.” In my case, I make time for yoga and my occasional crafting and arts.

What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?

It’s okay to make mistakes. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

Toni’s Picks

If you could have lunch with any woman, who would it be?

Lady Gaga! I’m a huge fan and I would looove to pick her brain on her creative process. Plus, I’m just really interested on how it’s like to hang out with her.

What is your go-to make up routine?

Clean face, cc cream, eye brows, blush and eye lash curler.

Favorite skin care brand, name it.

My life changed after using the Aivee Clinic’s Acne soap. Never washed my face with anything else after that.

I wish I knew how to…

Bike! But I’m currently learning that now so next on the list is scuba dive.

If I could have one superpower, it would be…

Teleportation! No airfare, no baggage problems and no visa applications haha!
